'Life is a rollercoaster'

'Special Occasion'

This year for Joe’s 25th birthday I surprised him with a weekend away at Thorpe Park. We both love theme parks and I couldn’t believe when I found out it’d been 4 years since we last visited for his 21st birthday. Time Flies! So I thought it would be the perfect getaway for his special day.

So I booked a weekend break with ‘Thorpe Park Breaks’. This included 2 for 1 days at the park and overnight accommodation with breakfast. For the beginning of June for 2 people, I got a great deal and booking process was so easy. The hotels included were all 4 stars and above and were all local to the theme park. Just what you needed after a full on day.

We arrived on Saturday at around 11am and were surprised to find the car park half full. Another plus was that the weather was around 22 degrees and we were in the middle of the UK’s summer heat wave, which made it so much more appealing to walk round. I’d printed off my tickets before we got there and we were through in no time with no queues and no hassle. When arriving in the midst of the park we went straight to the wait times and couldn’t believe that the longest wait time was 30minutes...in June!! We couldn’t believe our luck.

Not knowing how long our luck would last we decided to do our favourites first and headed straight to the brand new ‘Walking Dead’ roller coaster. Joe and I hate anything involving actors; however we are also massive Walking Dead fans so we felt we owed it to ourselves to see what it was like. It did help that we watched a sneak preview on YouTube so we didn’t feel completely out of our depth.

VERDICT: The ride was very clever in its themeing and storyline, however the coaster was the same as before, apart from decorations hanging inside, which looked like they’d been purchased from the local corner shop, so nothing too scary. The worst part was the actors at the end that we ended up having to run away from in the pitch dark. Safe to say, we made it out, but I wouldn’t rush back on that ride in a hurry.

After the disappointment of the first ride, we headed to one we knew wouldn’t disappoint, Stealth. Now bear in mind we hadn’t been on this ride for 4 years but wow, it was still just as amazing as the first time. I actually thought it was faster but I am 4 years older so may be starting to feel it a bit more in my old age. Stealth is One of Europe’s fastest roller-coaster's. It propels you from 0-80mph in 2 seconds, so it’s not one for the faint hearted. What was also amazing was the fact we only had to queue for 15 minutes!!

'The Swarm'

' are you brave enough?'

Knowing the queues were still low and wanting to take it for granted, we headed over to our number one ride and Thorpe Park’s officially newest ride, The Swarm. Personally you can tell this ride is quite new because it is super smooth and very well thought out in terms of theming. It does go upside down, but you hardly feel it as it feels like you’re riding the clouds it’s that smooth. No headaches when you come off this one, only the over powering feeling of wanting to go back on! And with a queue of only 10 minutes that’s exactly what we did!

Lunch was definitely next and Joe and I normally head to the Pizza and Pasta buffet next to nemesis inferno, but seen as it was a special occasion we decided on KFC. This is where we got lucky again because we ended up receiving way more food than we paid for by mistake so we had a big birthday feast which was delicious. Things always taste nicer when you don’t have it a lot and Joe and I hadn’t eaten KFC for about 2 years!

Straight after lunch we queued for Nemesis Inferno as it was a 30minute wait and we wanted our food to go down before being thrown around again. This again, was just as good as we remembered, and if the wait had been shorter, we’d have gone on again.

The rest of the afternoon we had a walk around and enjoyed the sunshine, going on any rides with a low wait, which was 90% of them. By 4 o’clock we’d done all of our favourites more than once and was ready to head to our hotel for a lie down. It was such a hot day and with there being no queues we did a lot more than we thought, so we’d really tired ourselves out.

Even though our team didn't win the game, we wouldn't take back our weekend to Liverpool, it was the best weekend we'd shared in a long time, full of love and laughter. Spending quality time with my best friend is how I want every day to be, and hopefully soon it will be. Work hard, play hard.

Normally I’d put off booking Thorpe Park for a weekend in summer but we were pleasantly surprised and it was made even better by the gorgeous weather we were having. I’d definitely recommend booking a break through ‘Thorpe Park Breaks’ regardless if you head back to the park for the second day, it’s nice to have the option. On Sunday we headed to Windsor for a change of scenery. If you’d like to read what we got up to their then, click here. Thanks for reading. Megan Jade xox
